Citizenship is a subject that is increasing in importance, the Government’s new initiative “National Citizen service” begins its pilot stage in 2011 and SEAL has been included in the National curriculum for some time already.

Members of our team have this past 18 months, been involved in the successful roll out of a citizenship programme in the schools in the UAE.

The Citizen Course, through field study programmes, gives young people the skills and competencies required for citizenship. These courses form a strong foundation for the successful delivery of both the Governments National Citizen Service and SEAL in schools.

Our courses are for two days (weekend) or five day duration, both being residential, based in North Wales’ beautiful Snowdonia national Park and Isle of Anglesey and incorporating both theoretical workshops and practical application and learning.

Our courses include:

  • Planning and the setting of objectives
  • Communication skills
  • Team work
  • What is community?
  • Creating strength from diverse communities

Tomorrow’s Citizens!

Eagle House began its work 16 years ago working with disaffected young people in the UK, orphans in Romania and mainstream schools. Our aim has been simple – to work alongside and support young people to be the best they can be.

Over those 16 years we have identified ways of developing fundamental skill sets and life skills that all young people need and we have developed two new programmes: -

Tomorrow’s Citizens and the Young Achievers Programme

An invaluable element of the redesigned programme delivery and its testing was a contract to design and implement a behavioural development programme combined with a “Civil Services” programme for educational establishments in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
“The education of our children is one of the most important facets of our lives; it shapes the future of our families our communities and our countries. Obviously these are important but it is now internationally recognized and proven that there is another branch of a young person’s education that is either missing in some young people or merely not developed in others, Emotional Intelligence, Without it a young person can only succeed by accident not by design” (2008, His Highness Sheik Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi)

The Eagle House project managed the design and implementation in 2008 of a programme to 6 pilot schools and then were instrumental in the roll out to a further 51 schools, and 11,500 students. This enabled us to trial our methodologies and content, and then fine tune both areas. The skills and competencies encapsulated in Emotional Intelligence, integrally woven into our programmes are well accepted as being the building blocks of success. These are the social and personal skills and competencies that everyone needs in order to socialize successfully with others, to be socially and personally aware.

Our course looks at the following topics:

  • Self-assessment / Self-management; where the clients are with their lives and where they would like to go
  • Confidence
  • Motivation
  • Communication skills
  • Self-discipline and self-control
  • They work alongside our staff and begin to develop their interpersonal skills, leadership, communication, social skills, empathy and social empathy.

Our course is a structured programme of outdoor activities and discussion workshops tailored to achieve the learning outcomes in an enjoyable and at times exciting environment. We use the natural situations faced during the weeks to develop the aforementioned competencies in the young people as the learning opportunities occur.
